Leigh Holliday Brannan ("Miss Leigh")
Leigh was born and raised in Washington, DC. By the time Leigh was 3, she had already fallen in love with art. Ever since then, there was something about the feeling of putting on a smock that made her feel just right. After high school, Leigh moved to the Midwest to study psychology, but soon found she couldn't ignore her calling any longer. Leigh moved back to Washington, DC and was accepted at the prestigious Corcoran College of Art + Design. Her studies at The Corcoran helped crystallize her understanding of the power of creativity and its positive effect on society. After graduating in 1996, Leigh founded her first successful fine art school for children in DC near historic Georgetown and owned it for seven years. In 2003, Leigh moved to New York City and worked for a time in administrative roles for Wall Street firms. Although that was an invaluable experience, she soon realized that she needed to return to her true love: art and kids! In 2010, Leigh founded The Art Room NYC. With her passion for teaching stronger than ever, Leigh is excited with the wonderful success of The Art Room and the value it is adding to the vibrant and growing community of Bay Ridge.
Leigh holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Corcoran College of Art + Design and is a New York State certified teacher. In addition, Leigh has had experience working for a psychiatrist in the field of childhood neuro-developmental disorders such as ADD, ADHD and Autism.
Mary Immaculata Brannan ("Miss Mary")
Mary is a native New Yorker and has been teaching at Holy Angels Catholic Academy (formerly Our Lady of Angels) in Bay Ridge for 30 years. Mary began her teaching career at Our Lady of Angels as a kindergarten teacher in 1984, and she was responsible for founding their Pre-K program in 1990. To this day many Brooklyn parents say they specifically enrolled their children at Our Lady of Angels just to be in Mrs. Brannan's famous Pre-K class. Mary's motto is "Everyone is an artist!" The Art Room is honored to have Mary's guidance and experience to add to our program.
Mary co-authored the Brooklyn & Queens Diocese Pre-K Curriculum Guide for Early Childhood Teachers, which subsequently was published and recognized nationally.
